The Active Tectonics and Earthquakes Team in Oxford Earth Sciences were honoured to host a delegation of our collaborators for a week in April 2026. We were joined by colleagues from the Kazakh National Data Center (KNDC) of the National Nuclear Center in Kazakhstan, and the Institutes of Seismology in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and the Institute of Geology, Earthquake Engineering, and Seismology in Tajikistan. This was an important opportunity for discussion of progress in existing projects and for brainstorming of ideas for the future.

Whilst in Oxford we were able to visit the dating laboratories to see the next steps after samples are collected in the fieldwork and shipped back to the UK. We also all attended a one-day conference and workshop on the use of EO (Earth Observation) data in Oxford University. The visit to Oxford also enabled cultural exchange, including visits to the world-class museums and an unforgettable College dining experience (at University College).

On the final day we were pleased to be joined by representatives from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) who are supporting our ongoing programme of geohazard assessment around major green energy infrastructure sites, and associated workshops and training activities. This was a valuable opportunity for our guests to present on some of the priorities in geological hazard assessment regionally and in each nation.
